Turmeric is a root of the plant Curcuma Longa, the same family as ginger, originating from Southeast Asia. It has a bright yellow colour and tastes slightly bitter. Known as Haldi in India. In India, it is used both as a kitchen spice and for medicinal purpose. It is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants. It is one of the most used spices in the gastronomy of India. Commonly used in powdered form. Fresh roots are also used as a paste or grating them like the ginger.
