Hariyali Chicken Tikka (Green Chicken Tikka)

This chicken skewer recipe is known as Chicken Hariyali Tikka or Green Chicken Tikka. It is a north Indian recipe. Hariyali means green. In this recipe, the chicken pieces are marinated in a green paste prepared with mint leaves, coriander, and green chillies. Due to its green colour, it calls Hariyali.

It is a lip-smacking appetizer where boneless chicken pieces are flavoured with a paste made from mint and coriander leaves. Then marinated with yoghurt and spices. Also added cashew paste to give it more texture. After the marination, the skewers are formed and grilled to perfection. With all this combination of flavours, you will get juicy, spicy, and delicious chicken skewers to enjoy with family and friends.

Hariyali Chicken Tikka (Green Chicken Tikka)

 

 Ingredients:

  • 600g boneless thighs or chicken breasts
  • Bamboo or metal skewers
  • 2 tablespoons oil (for marinating)
  • Oil for frying
  • 125g plain yoghurt
  • Salt to taste

  For the green paste:

  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 1 cup coriander leaves
  • 2 green chillies
  • A piece of ginger (about 3cm thick)
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 30g cashew
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

  Spices:

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

 

Instructions:

Cut the chicken thighs into small cubes of 3cm approximately.

In a blender, add all the ingredients of green paste. Blend until getting a smooth paste.

-In a bowl put the chicken pieces and add all the ground spices, yoghurt, salt, oil, and the green paste. Mix well to coat each piece and leave it for marinating overnight or four hours in the fridge.

Soak the bamboo sticks in the water for 30 minutes.

-Then thread the marinated chicken pieces on the skewers.

-In a grill pan put a little bit of oil and fry the skewers until they are perfectly cooked and golden on each side.

Serve them hot with a yoghurt sauce (Raita).
